2008 WSOP Event 23 No-Limit Hold’em
Individual Event Reports
Event 23 No-Limit Hold’em Day 1
The buy in for this tournament was $2,000 a piece for the 1,344 players who sat down at the tables.
Size of the cash pool rose to $2,446,080 with the top 99 people guaranteed to see cash. The new
champion will take home $507,613 and a beautiful gold and diamond bracelet which is awarded to all
champions at the WSOP. Goal for the day is to last for 10 sixty minute levels.
Lots of top names were in the field like Phil Hellmuth who showed his behind once again to
everyone around him. (You would think with more WSOP bracelets than anyone alive that he would be grateful for
what he has instead of exploding because of not getting the cards he wanted at the tables.)
Others like Freddy Deeb, Barry Greenstein, Scotty Nguyen, Men "The Master" Nguyen, Mark Seif,
Jeff Madsen, David Sklansky, Chau Giang and Allan Smurfit were there as well.
About 90% of the field was thinned out today. Gone from the tourney were Sorel Mizzi, Clonie Gowan,
J.C. Tran, Joe Sebok, John Juanda, Andy Black, Erica Schoenberg and Chris Ferguson.
At the end of the day there were 134 who will move on to Day 2.
