The World Poker Tour has made many numerous changes that will affect the
upcoming Season 5 that will begin on May 1, 2006. For starters a new Chief
Operating Officer was put into place on January 23 named Peter Hughes. This
puts Hughes in immediate charge of the day-to-day operations of WPT Enterprises,
enabling him to increase the growth of the company on an International basis.
On January 23, WPT also announced that addition of Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas
as a new stop, plus the goodbye to the online poker rooms of Ultimate Bet and
Party Poker who were two of the founders of the World Poker Tour. The
Foxwoods' Poker Classic will replace the PartyPoker Million tournament on the
WPT calendar, and will actually be part of Season 4 taking place on April
6 to 9, 2005. PokerStars is still with the WPT tournament family so far.
The Doyle Brunson North American Poker Championship is now
know as the North American Poker Championship on the WPT schedule.
It will take place at the new Niagara Fallsview Resort in Niagara Falls, Canada
on October 25 - 29, 2006.
